Unclutter app for Mac

“I first came across Unclutter while searching for simple ways to organise files on my desktop without creating endless folders. I saw a few recommendations in productivity forums and decided to try it.

started using Unclutter around mid-2024, so I’ve been using it for several months now on a daily basis. I use it multiple times a day. It has basically become part of my workflow — I swipe down without thinking whenever I need to grab something quickly, park a file, copy text, or check my clipboard history.

The clipboard history and “pocket-like” file drawer are by far the most useful features. Being able to temporarily hold files and snippets in one place without creating clutter saves me a lot of time. I also love how seamless the gesture activation is — it feels intuitive rather than like another tool I have to remember to open.

The only small thing I’d mention is that sometimes I wish there were a few more customisation options for the appearance or layout. But this is minor — the simplicity is actually what keeps it so effective.

I’d recommend it to anyone who works across multiple documents, screenshots, notes, or websites and wants a clean, frictionless way to manage their desk space. It’s especially helpful for designers, students, writers, and anyone who hates desktop clutter. It feels like a natural extension of macOS rather than an extra app.
