Understanding The Effects of Paid Survey Results

In recent years, a lot has been written on the benefits of conducting surveys, and a lot more articles were written on how to create effective surveys that is targeted to achieve survey goals. However, have we really came to understand the changes that surveys brought to our lives and the world we live in?

Drawing from your own experiences, you would probably have had some encounters with surveys too. Be it was you participating in paid surveys or taking up the role of survey facilitation, what was it that drove us to use surveys more and more? And, how has survey results impacted us as individuals?

Putting these questions into context, we have gathered a few examples here that illustrates the reasons that prompt different acting parties to use surveys, and explores the degree of impact that survey results have on its respective parties.

"Surveys were not only a method used by businesses to gather and analyse vital information on their consumers and the marketplace, but has also became a mega influencer in the decision-making process."

In the field of business, it is common to see surveys being used as part of market research studies. Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut Bites were born due to the market research that the company invested in, and doing surveys were crucial in helping to identify consumer preferences and carry out product testing. The end result to Kellogg’s market research and survey journey was the creation of a successful new product that fitted with consumer tastebuds, and Kellogg achieved a sales value of £6.9 million in the first year of its launch.

Many other examples could be drawn to illustrate the use of surveys in the business field. Such as, customer reviews or feedbacks collected via survey forms is mostly used to improve the customer journey; businesses in the consumer electronics industry runs online paid surveys to understand market demands, monitor competition and engage in product testing for new innovations; McDonald uses surveys to understand its consumer demands, and survey results assist in refining its product strategies and business directions.

Surveys were not only a method used by businesses to gather and analyse vital information on their consumers and the marketplace, but has also became a mega influencer in the decision-making process. Many a times, the surveys themselves set the stage for interactions between businesses and their consumers, and analysed survey results are tremendously shaping the way businesses plan and execute their plannings.

Even government agencies also enlist surveys to better understand its residents at large. For example, Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower conducts Labour Force surveys regularly to aid the government in shaping manpower policies and programmes, and data collected from these surveys assist employers, workers and job seekers in making informed decisions on career and human resource matters.

Besides employing compulsory surveys with no incentives, government bodies also use surveys that pay to help boost participation rates. For example, the Expenditure and Food Survey ran by the UK Government pays £10 and £5 each to adults and seven to fifteen years old respectively on completion of the survey.

With that being said, survey usage and survey results influence on a country level too. Changing policies, introduction of new laws, or representation of data pointers on economic activities are only some of the fruits we experience from the act of conducting, doing and analysing survey results. Furthermore, as we are all residents of a particular country and govern by its rules, results concluded from surveys has evidently affected us in one way or another, whether we are aware of it or not.

"Dismissing the power that survey results have could mean that you are missing out on current trends or losing data that matters to you and your business."

We as individuals may be familiar with surveys and its effects too. Drawing experiences and stories from our PanelPlace members, many voluntarily joined PanelPlace to participate in paid surveys and eventually, these participations changed the way they use their free time.

Survey journeys might initially start off with close association to individual habits. Some of our members hoped to use surveys to pass time, while others wanted to earn income from this opportunity. Regardless of the motivation to join surveys that pay, most of our members shared that doing surveys educated them on new innovations and engages them to be part of something big. The convenience of doing surveys online, with added incentives, has also contributed in introducing change to member’s habits too.

Our member Mario is such a man where his habits had been greatly influenced by online paid surveys. He started doing surveys because of the need to fill his spare time and earn some extra income. However, after some time, he was hooked and surveys are pretty much the thing that occupies most of his free time. He is now so well trained in answering survey questionnaires that he is able to do surveys in any condition, even while exercising!

On the whole, survey results not only influence us greatly on a personal level, but also in the greater context, on a nation or country level too. Dismissing the power that survey results have could mean that you are missing out on current trends or losing data that matters to you and your business. Individual survey participants should also be cautious when giving information during survey participation, as your inputs directly affect the results that will be concluded after the survey ends.

Adding on, you get rewarded for participating in online paid surveys and you will become a voice of influence as you share your opinions through the surveys you participated in.
