How Hushed Works
1. Generate a new number: After downloading the Hushed app, you choose a new phone number from hundreds of available area codes in the US, Canada, and the UK. These numbers can be temporary ("burner") or long-term, depending on your needs and plan.
2. Use a VoIP connection: Hushed operates using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). This means your calls and messages are sent over Wi-Fi or your mobile data network, rather than a traditional cellular network. For this reason, your activity won't appear on your phone's carrier bill.
3. Ensure privacy: When you contact someone using your Hushed number, they will see only the Hushed number on their caller ID, not your personal one. The app separates your Hushed contacts and communication history from your device's native phone features, ensuring your privacy.
4. Manage and customize: You can manage multiple private phone lines within the app. Features include custom voicemail greetings, call forwarding, and auto-reply text messages.
