“I first heard about Grammarly a few years ago from a colleague who wouldn't stop talking about it. At the time, I dismissed it as just another browser extension nice to have, but hardly essential. Then, during a particularly stressful deadline week, I noticed my desktop notifications were catching typos I kept missing. Out of curiosity, I installed the free browser version. Within days, I realized my emails were clearer, my reports cleaner, and my stress lower. When I later switched most of my writing to mobile, I hesitated could a grammar tool really work well on a phone? I installed the app just to test it. I haven't looked back since.
I started using Grammarly about eight months ago, beginning with the browser version. I have been actively using the mobile app for the last six months. In that time, it has become as essential to my writing as the keyboard itself.
I use Grammarly daily often multiple times per hour. Between work emails, personal messages, and social media posts, my phone keyboard is active constantly, and Grammarly is always there. I would say I use it at least twenty to thirty times on a typical weekday and never go a full day without it.
The most useful feature for me is tone detection. I often write quickly, especially on my phone, and I don't always realize how my words might be received. Grammarly alerts me when I sound too harsh, too uncertain, or too informal for the situation. It has improved my professional relationships more than any other writing tool. I also appreciate the basic grammar and punctuation fixes, but tone detection is what keeps me loyal to the app.
Honestly, I dislike very little. The premium upgrade suggestions can be a bit repetitive, and the app sometimes flags phrases that are actually fine for casual conversation. But these are minor frustrations. The free version is so useful that I've learned to ignore the occasional interruption. My only real wish is for Grammarly to offer a quieter, less promotional experience for loyal free users.
I would recommend Grammarly wholeheartedly and without hesitation but with one important piece of advice. Download the app, use the free version first, and give it at least three days before forming an opinion. Why three days? Because the real value of Grammarly reveals itself gradually. On day one, you'll notice it catching obvious typos. On day two, you'll appreciate how smoothly it integrates into your keyboard. On day three, you'll send a message, reread it, and realize Grammarly just saved you from an embarrassing mistake you didn't even see coming. That's the moment you become a believer.
To my colleagues who write emails on the go, I say: "Install it. You'll wonder how you ever managed without it." To my friends who apologize constantly for typos in group chats, I say: "Stop apologizing. Let Grammarly handle it." To students or non-native English speakers, I say: "This isn't just a correction tool. It's a learning tool. Pay attention to what it flags, and you'll become a better writer over time."
Most importantly, I tell people to manage their expectations. Grammarly won't make you a professional author overnight, and it isn't always right. But for everyday writing emails, messages, notes, posts it is the most useful mobile tool I have found. I don't just recommend it. I insist on it for anyone who types more than ten sentences a day on their phone.
